Basic Sewing Series: Patterns, Cutting and Marking in Longmont

This basic sewing series consists of 4 three-hour sessions at our Longmont location.  It includes topics of interest to new sewists looking to master basic garment sewing skills.  Each session is a standalone class and students must be enrolled individually.  Pick and choose the sessions you wish to attend or enroll for the entire series.  
Required class supplies are not included in pricing.  
Session 1 will cover the following:

  • Understanding commercial pattern envelopes
  • Reading and understanding pattern instruction sheets
  • Determining the correct size to cut using pattern sizing chart
  • Determining required amount of fabrics, notions and supplies needed to complete your project
  • Identifying and selecting needed pattern pieces form the pattern envelope
  • Understanding the pattern layout guide
  • Identifying the correct cutting lines to use for the identified version and size
  • Different options for transferring pattern markings to fabric

Instructor: Andi Bechberger
Instructor Bio: Andi holds a BA in Home Economics from Adrian College, Adrian, Michigan and a Master Degree in Educational Technology from George Washington University Washington, DC. She has been sewing since she was a teenager. "If I wanted a new dress, my mom bought the pattern and material, and I made it." Additionally, she brings 27 years of classroom experience as a Career and Technology Education Educator; 17 as a middle school Family and Consumer Science (Home Economics) teacher. She is excited to share this experience with students in Maggie's Sewing Classroom.
