Basic Sewing Series: Garment Fasteners, Elastic, Trim, Decorative Stitching in Longmont


This basic sewing series consists of 4 three-hour sessions and will be at the Longmont location.  It includes topics of interest to new sewists looking to master basic garment sewing skills.  Each session is a standalone class and must be enrolled in individually.  Pick and choose the sessions you wish to attend or enroll for the entire series.  
This session will focus on garment fasteners, elastic, trims and decorative stitching.
In this class, you will learn:

  • How to set a centered zipper
  • How to set a placket zipper
  • How to create a buttonhole using sewing machine settings
  • How to use the sewing machine to sew on a button
  • How to sew on Velcro
  • How to create different types of casings and insert elastic
  • How to sew elastic directly to a garment
  • How to identify different types of trim and how to apply
  • How and when to topstitch
  • How to create and use decorative stitching
  • The use of decorative threads
Students will be provided with sample fabrics to practice techniques covered during class.  In addition, students need to bring the following items to class:
  • Sewing machine, sewing machine manual (if available), foot control, machine needles, bobbins, accessory feet and power cord
  • Buttonhole foot, if you have one
  • 2 dress zippers, 7" or 9"
  • Basic sewing supplies such as thread snips, seam ripper, marking pencils, straight pins, seam gauge tape measure, etc.
