Learn to Quilt with Lou! Longmont



This class will meet at our Longmont location.  Learn how to make your very first quilt! In this 5-week class, you'll learn how to select fabrics, cut using a rotary cutter, rulers and mat, how to precisely piece your blocks, and finally adding borders, quilting your layers, and binding!

Supply List: (all supplies are available at Maggie's at a 15% Class Discount.
If you would like assistance in choosing your fabric, please come into Maggie's prior to class and we will be happy to help you.

  • New Beginnings pattern by Gizmo & Co. Designs
  • Fabric (allow extra if pre-washing):
    • Main print/Focus print: 2-1/2 yds (for focus block, outer border & binding)
    • Medium light: 1/2 yd
    • Inner Border: 3/8 yd
    • Backing: 3 yds
    • Batting: 60" x 72"
  • Basic Sewing Supplies
    • Scissors or thread snips
    • Rotary Cutter
    • Cutting mat (at least 18" x 24")
    • Seam ripper
    • Straight pins
    • Thread (50 wt)
    • Sewing machine needles
    • Chalk marker/pencil
    • Rulers - must have a small square and a 6" x 24" or 8-1/2" x 24", 12-1/2" square and a 6" square.
  • Sewing Machine in good working order with foot pedal, power cord, bobbins, 1/4" presser foot and a walking foot. You must be familiar with sewing machine and know how to thread it and how to wind bobbins.

Preparation prior to class: No preparation except supplies needed. Lou will give assistance the first hour of class regarding fabrics and tools necessary to make this quilt. You will need good basic sewing supplies for this project for the purpose of learning the best way to be succesful.

Class Policies:  Advanced registration and paid class fee are required to hold your place in class and receive the class discount. Come to class with all of you supplies. Please be prompt to class -- you will need to be set-up and ready to start at the designated class time. No children or cell phones in class, please.







Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: Must be familiar with your sewing machine and know how to thread it and wind bobbins.

Instructor Bio: The lovely Lou Burns has been quilting for over 45 years. She is the former owner of The Quilt Shop in Broomfield and brings 30 years of teaching and quilt design experience. We are honored to have her as one of our instructors.
